We’re built for comfort at SEE so checking the weather before a day on the river helps with preparation. Weather changes dramatically throughout the seasons and can change quickly throughout the day here in the ADK’s. Synthetic layers are quick drying and recommended. Depending on the season will determine how many layers to wear. NO COTTON! Cotton holds onto the moisture and will bring a chill to the bone. A hot summer day is the exception to the rule. A good synthetic base layer also can help with protection against the sun and bugs. We like to wear a synthetic layer under board shorts so you have the options to adjust your temp on the river.
If it is wet suit weather the layers also give you separation between you and the suit which brings added comfort. A shoe or sandal that stays on your foot or an old pair of sneakers are great protection for your feet and helps keeping you safe in a wilderness environment. Bare feet, flip flops and crocks are no good on the river! We always have neoprene booties that you are welcome to use and are great with a pair of wool socks. A hat is a good idea for warmth on cooler days or protection from the sun on warmer days a hat also brings additional comfort, it’s nice to have some separation between you and your helmet. If you have eyeglass or sunglasses some type of retainer is recommended. SEE always has some layers to borrow or glasses retainers for purchase at our base. Each guide will always have a dry bag on board so you always have the option of putting on an additional layer or shedding a layer as well.

We try to take advantage of our size and our size is small! We’re the smallest rafting company that operates on the Hudson so you always have the small company vibe. Our boats can hold up to six people comfortably and we do have one boat that can accommodate 8 people. If you would like a private raft we can also accommodate special requests just communicate before your scheduled day on the river.
-
Absolutely! Our team works hard to make sure your day is safe and filled with laugh out loud fun. Never expected but always appreciated!
-
Yes there is! SEE is fortunate to have a very talented photographer on the river! Photos are available to view and purchase at the end of the day. Photos of your boat and 10 scenic photos are on a USB drive to take home the same day. If the USB drive is not available the same day as your trip you can always view and purchase online.
-
SEE does not have any hidden costs. If you feel you need or we recommend a wet suit all good. Every boat has a New York State licensed Guide and of course we stop about half way for our healthy hearty riverside lunch. Upon our return to the river base we’ll enjoy a cold beverage and an après river snack.

Spring Rafting Here in the Central Adirondacks anything is possible weather wise in the spring. The water is cold but we have legit Class II, III & IV whitewater! The snow melt is coming downstream from the high peaks and the trees haven’t come out of there dormant stage so any rain we get turns into run off! A recipe for a high adventure river trip for sure! Tons of fun and everyone should be ready to charge for a big and fast run on the river. Wear it if you got it! This stretch of river is fun at any level but the Hudson is a high volume river this time of year which is a sight to SEE. So fun!
Summer Rafting we’re fortunate to have whitewater all summer long! Our schedule is based on a release of water from our local dam which provides us with consistent water all season! Consistent class II & III which is not big hairy scary whitewater but just fun boogie water. Waves over the bow some places you want to be and places you don’t want to be. Fun for everyone and fun for all occasions! The water has warmed up so there are multiple spots for an intentional swim to cool down before we get you back in the boat to run some more whitewater.
Fall Rafting every season is beautiful on the river but it’s truly pleasing when the hardwood forest begins to change into the foliage season. The water remains consistent class II & III which always brings excitement but the weather is cooling down. To have a view with no rooftops for miles is memorable. Run a rapid enjoy the beauty and enjoy life!

Here at Square Eddy we’re proud to be the smallest outfitter that operates on the river. Time is precious and it’s important to not cut corners and respect the amount of time and energy it takes to join us for a day on the river. Our team is experienced, involved and committed to make sure everyone is safe, well feed and having as much fun as possible. We feel fortunate to be a position to share such a special stretch of river and are proud to live here locally and operating a small business in the Central Adirondacks. We’re always ready for a day of Laugh out loud fun. Come find your own peace of nature!
-
No you don’t. Every guest is outfitted with a type 5 PFD (personal floatation device) that has loads of flotation. Actually if you go for an intentional or unintentional swim you’ll be safe and on top of the water. Safety is our top priority, after a through safety talk, additional instruction and good communication with your guide your comfort level will increase as we work our way downstream. We do everything possible to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible in this environment.
-
There are some very peaceful sections to relax and chill however the whitewater sections are super fun and yes you will be getting wet pretty much from head to toe. The adventure offers a good balance.
-
You bet! We raft rain or shine, honestly there is no better outdoor activity than whitewater rafting when it’s raining. You’ll be getting wet throughout our adventure rain or shine so as long as we’re properly dressed it will be a great day on the river. We secretly do the rain dance in hopes of putting water in our river for as much fun as possible.
-
This stretch of river is a perfect first whitewater experience. SEE takes safety very seriously and when we meet in the morning we’ll start communicating and follow it up with a through safety talk before you meet your guide who will talk more about boat specific safety and paddling instruction. By the time we’re ready to go down stream you’ll feel more comfortable and after hitting the first wave things will click and you’ll be ready for the rest of the adventure.
-
Providing a clean environment is beyond important! Our base and gear is cleaned consistently and a top priority. When it comes to the privy this is a situation that you should be ready for. When we get on the river we’re in the wilderness with no facilities. SEE always has hand sanitizer and soaps on the river and at the base. It’s a big day so be ready in every dimension! Make a “stop” before you arrive and are outfitted with gear. We do have an option at the base and a last call at the put in but from there we’ll leave no trace in the forest and abide by the rules and regulations of the DEC.
-
We do have a professional photographer on the river however if you would like to bring a camera or your device you are more than welcome to but be aware that it is at your own risk. It will be getting wet and needs a lanyard to attach on to your body so it doesn’t end up on the bottom of the river. If it is a mobile device you would like to bring putting it in raft mode is a must so you can soak in the experience without any outside distraction.
-
Safety is a priority so if you or anyone in your group has any health conditions it’s important to communicate! If you require medication, have an epi pen for allergies or inhaler it’s important talk to your guide about the best place to store these types of items safely.
